Master bathroom: full gut renovation with marble

Master bathroom: full gut renovation with marble

A complete gut-and-rebuild of a master bathroom with an emphasis on precision and premium materials. CRS Construction demoed everything down to the studs and rebuilt with marble tile throughout: walls, floors, and shower surround, with meticulous attention to alignment and grout lines. The double vanity and frameless shower enclosure complete a high-end finish that elevated the entire home.

Project details

What kind of renovation was this Irvine master bath?

This was a complete gut-and-rebuild, meaning CRS Construction demoed the bathroom down to the studs before starting any new construction, rather than working around existing fixtures or plumbing. That level of renovation is more involved than a surface update, but it allows for precise control over waterproofing, substrate prep, and fixture placement from a clean slate. A full gut renovation is typically the right approach when a bathroom needs a genuinely different layout or when existing plumbing and waterproofing are old enough that building around them would risk problems down the line rather than solving them.

What materials were used?

The project used marble tile throughout the walls, floors, and shower surround, with close attention paid to alignment and grout lines given how visible those details are with a natural stone material. Marble requires more careful layout planning than standard ceramic or porcelain tile, since veining and seams need to be planned out before installation rather than adjusted on the fly. Getting the waterproofing and substrate right before a single tile goes up matters even more with a premium material like marble, since redoing tile work after installation is far more costly than with a standard tile choice.

What fixtures were included?

The finished bathroom includes a double vanity and a frameless glass shower enclosure, both chosen to complete a high-end finish consistent with the marble tile used throughout the room. A double vanity is a common upgrade in a full master bath gut renovation since it requires additional plumbing rough-in that is far easier to add during a complete rebuild than to retrofit later. The frameless glass shower enclosure was selected specifically to keep sightlines open in the room and let the marble shower surround remain the visual focus rather than being broken up by a framed door.
